Linked with the resort of Tignes to form the formidable ski area of L’Espace Killy, named after the equally formidable 1963 three times French Olympic gold medal winner, Jean-Claude Killy, Val d’Isere and the surrounding Val d’Isere chalets make it a ‘must-see’ and ‘must-ski’ resort.
INTRODUCTION
With the parish church, the central focal point of the resort’s ‘old town’, not only dating back to 1664 but also named after Saint Bernard of Menthon, the patron saint of mountain dwellers, the rich history of this mountain village has always suggested it would blossom into the much celebrated and well loved winter resort it is today. This cosy sense of village tradition is echoed in the stone and wooden clad Val d’Isere chalets that help create the picture perfect appearance of this charming resort. The high altitude of L’Espace Killy and the sheer size of the area has led to it becoming affectionately known as 'le plus bel espace de ski au monde' - translating literally as 'the most beautiful ski area in the world'. With over 300 km of groomed pistes and a magnitude of off-piste powder, Val d’Isere boasts one of the longest winter seasons of the Alps with guaranteed snow covering from end of November through to the end of April. Chalets in Val d’Isere are very picturesque at this time of year. Enjoying a comprehensive lift network, there truly is something for everyone. Beginners will find solace in the gentler ski areas on the pistes of Verte in the Bellevarde area as well as the Madeline in the Solaise area. For the more adventurous skiers, take the Solaise Express lift to the Solaise area where intermediate and advanced skiers will find a host of challenging red runs on the pistes of Cugnai and Arcelle among many. For further thrills, a trip over to Le Fornet cannot be missed with an expansive area dotted with red and black runs as well as some of the outstanding off piste opportunities in the Alps, located on the pistes of Point Pers and Col Pers. The thrills and excitement does not end there; after leaving your Val d’Isere chalet late afternoon, the nightlife begins with proportions of après ski that will leave you spoilt for choice. From lively bars positioned in the middle of the pistes to the funky venues of Dick’s Tea Bar and Cafe Face located nearer the town. The entertainment ranges from the simple to the sophisticated, the classic to the crazy and for those who prefer the quieter life there are a number of piano bars and cocktail lounges to ensure you a slice of the evening pie! Our exceptional chalets in Val d’Isere provide the occupant with the perfect tonic in time for another day of admiring the views, taking on the slopes and exploring what the nightlife has to offer.
